Internship
The Golden Rule Garden is expanding and is in need of some extra hands to help us! We are searching for a couple or individual that is passionate about subsistence farming and homesteading to help us with our community food production and processing.
The ideal candidate would have a realistic expectation about the mental and physical dedication that farming requires, an understanding of the weather extremes (max 112, min 30) involved with farming in our agricultural zone (8a), love and respect for the land and its stewardship, knowledge on plant care, a can-do positive attitude, ability to work well on team and independent tasks, and a good sense of humor! Farming is fun, and we have plenty of terrible jokes and vegetable puns to share! At this time we are not able to house any children or pets. We also expect the candidate(s) to be able to commit to the whole growing season May-November, with potential for longer employment if applicable.
Responsibilities
Weeding, weed whacking, mowing, flatting, transplanting, direct sewing, trellising, bed preparation and amending, broad forking, harvesting, processing harvest, assisting in produce preservation, watering, laying and maintaining drip tape, basic carpentry skills, and will have opportunity to assist with other projects on the ranch. Interns are also responsible for post-community dinner clean up one night of the week.
Experience
Prior farm or garden experience is required.
Compensation
Room and board in exchange for 35-40 hours a week.
Meals are provided for and eaten communally in our dining hall.
We are able to consider dietary restrictions, just let us know
Housing provided.
A monthly stipend is also provided.
If interested in this position please send an email to goldenrulegarden@gmail.com containing:
- A brief introduction of yourself: Who are you, why are you interested in farming, will you have your own transportation or housing, when are you able to start, what is your favorite vegetable pun, and what do you have to contribute to the Golden Rule Garden?
- Your up to date resume with two references (email and phone number) and most importantly the best way to get in touch with you!
